2005年初の試飲会

下記の日時に小樽でレモンマートルティー試飲会を行います。
ティーのほかにレモンマートル茶葉入りの手作りパウンドケーキも用意しますので、是非味見に来て下さい。
また、レモンマートルの柑橘系の香りを体験して頂くためにレモンマートルの葉も持って行きます。

東京より北にある一番美味しいラーメン屋

3ヶ月ぶりに妻と僕2人で一番気に入っているラーメン屋へ行きました。
何年も会っていない親友との再会のような感激でした。
そのラーメンは今までと同じように美しく見えて、香りが良くて、味も良かった。
18ヶ月前このラーメン屋を見つけてから、僕は別のラーメン屋へ行ったことがありません。
最高のラーメン屋を見つけました。
僕のお勧めは味噌ラーメンです。

東京より北にある一番美味しいラーメン屋は、
札幌市豊平区西岡3条1丁目５にある橘「たちばな」というラーメン屋です。

For the first time in 3 months my wife and I went to our favorite ramen shop today. It was like seeing an old friend you hadn’t seen for years. However, the ramen looked as good, smelt as good and tasted as good as it did last time. We discovered this ramen shop about 18 months ago and I haven’t been to another since. I have found the best ramen shop. My recommendation is Miso ramen.

The name of the best ramen shop north of Tokyo is ‘Tachibana’ and the address is
Sapporo-shi, Toyohira-ku, Nishioka, 3-jyo, 1-chome, 5

ビリーティの作り方

（オーストラリアのブッシュで昔飲まれた伝統的な紅茶）

材料
・ ティー（オーストラリア産のもの!!）
・ 砂糖
・ ミルク
・ 水
・ ビリー缶（アルミ缶）
・ スティック(枝)
・ キャンプファイヤー

作り方
(1) キャンプファイヤーの火の上に水の入ったアルミ缶を設置する。
(2) 沸騰したら、人数分のティーの葉を入れる。
(3) 1分間そのまま沸騰させ、スティック(枝)を使ってアルミ缶のハンドルを持ち上げ、火からおろす。
(4) 軍手や厚めの布などでハンドルを持ち、肩からぐるぐるといきおいよくアルミ缶3回を回す。
　　（ティーの葉を缶の底に沈めるためです）

（A traditional tea drunk long ago in the Australian bush）

What you need
・ Tea, Australian grown of course
・ Sugar as needed
・ Milk as needed
・ Water
・ “Billy Can”
・ Forked stick
・ Fire

What you do
Make a camp fire and put the billy on the coals. When boiling, throw in a single fistful of tea for each person and then throw one in for the pot. Leave on heat for another minute then pull away from coals using the forked stick on the handle to lift.
Grab billy handle with hat or other suitable insulator and swing quickly around in a full circle three times bringing it back up past your knee then back over your shoulder and so completing a full circle each time. The reason for doing this is to sink the tea leaves to the bottom of the pot so you can pour a drink without filling the cup with tea leaves.

携帯なんていらない

私は携帯電話を欲しいと思ったことがありませんでした。
ところが、日本に来てみると、携帯電話は生活必需品でした。
若者からお年寄りまで皆が持っていました。
札幌に来て間もないころ、私は一人で市内に行くことにしました。
その時僕の妻が「持って行け」と言ったのは妻の母の携帯電話でした。
僕は必要だと思いませんでしたが、彼女達が強く勧めるので持って行くことにしました。
その日は2月の中旬でとても寒く午後4時半には暗くなっていました。
帰り道は分かっていたし帰るころまで電話は一度使いませんでした。

さて、僕は正しいバス停で降り妻の自家に向かって歩き始めました。
向かい側から対行者が歩いてきました。
僕は狭い雪道をゆずり彼らを先に通りました。その後5分ぐらい歩きましたが、見覚えが無い風景になってきた気がしました。
さらに5分歩き続けると電灯がほとんど無くなりその5分後には僕は電灯も車も無い熊が出そうな真っ黒な山の中にいました。

迷子です！！
来た道を戻るには寒すぎて暗くて道も見えなくなっていました。
そこで必要ないと言っていた携帯電話を使うことになりました。
おかげで僕は助かりました。

悲しいことに家の前には直接に足跡が残っており、ちょうど対行者に道をゆずったのが家の前でした。
その時家に背を向けたので気付かずに進んでしまったのでした。
この日僕は道に迷っただけではなくもう携帯電話は必要ないと言うことが出来なくなってしまいました。
言うまでも無くその後すぐに買わされました。

I came to Japan and mobile phones were all the craze. The young, old and those that didn’t need them all had one. I planned to go into the city to look around. My wife said 「Here, take this」.It was my mother in laws mobile phone. I didn’t want to but after some looks from all the in laws I took it. It was the middle of February and very cold, the sun was no where to be seen after 4:30 pm. I was almost back home and very proud of myself. I didn’t use the phone once. I got off at the correct bus stop and was walking home. Someone was walking toward me. We were both in a very narrow snow path. I stopped to let them pass. I had lost count of the number of steps I had taken from the bus stop and had to start counting again. I continued walking for about another 5 minutes. The scenery was not what I was used to. Another 5 minutes and the street lights were getting dimmer. Another 5 minutes and I was in bear country, no street lights and no cars. I was lost. It was too cold to return and too dark to find street directions. The only thing to do was to use the phone. Damn and Help. I was picked up safely. How did I get lost you ask. My good deed on the path proved my undoing. After making room for someone to pass me I lost my way. At this point I was virtually in front of my wife’s house. It was a double punch. Not only did I lose my way home but I also lost me reasons for not wanting a mobile phone. My wife made sure of that.

サンプルってどこまで送るの？

最初に、基本的なバックグラウンドを説明します。
* 私は札幌(日本)に住んでいます。
* 私はオーストラリア人です。
* レモンマートルは、オーストラリアだけで栽培・製造されており、僕はオーストラリアから輸入しています。
およそ2カ月前、電話がかかってきました。レモンマーテルティーのサンプルを送って欲しいとのことでした。
僕は‘問題無いよ’と答えました。送り先の住所を聞いて、もう一度聞き直してしまいました。
シドニー? えっ?
僕は少し戸惑いました。
彼は再び「シドニーまで送って欲しい」と僕に言いました。

札幌の僕のお客様（お店の経営者）の知り合いで、レモンマートルを紹介されたということでした。
オーストラリアの商品を逆輸入???
今までサンプルをあちこちに送りましたが最も珍しい例でした。

ところで、僕が気に入っているレモンマーテルティーの入れ方を紹介したいと思います。

(1)カップにお湯を入れ、カップを温めてからお湯を捨てる。
(2)ティーバッグ１つをカップに入れ、熱いお湯（120～150cc）を
　注ぎお皿などで蓋をし、約３分そのまま置く。
(3)蓋をはずして、出来上がり。
★お好みで、黒砂糖やハチミツがお勧めです。

First some background information. * I live in Sapporo, Japan. * I am from Australia. * Lemon Myrtle is grown and produced only in Australia and I import it into Japan from Australia.

About 2 months ago I got a phone call and the person wanted me to send them a sample of Lemon Myrtle Tea. ‘No problems’ I said. I asked for the address but had to ask again. Sydney? What? I was a little confused. He told me again, ‘Sydney’.

One of my customers here in Sapporo told one of their clients who lives in Sydney about Lemon Myrtle. I get a phone call from this person asking for a sample. My most interesting request for a sample so far.

By the way, here is the way I prepare my Lemon Myrtle Tea.

1) Warm the cup you intend to use with hot water.
2) After disposing the water, place 1 tea bag in the cup. Add between 120 to 150 cc of hot water.
3) Cover the cup with a saucer and let it sit from between 3 to 5 minutes.
Add black sugar, honey etc. to suit your taste.

本当のアイスティー

レモンマートルティーを飲んだことがありますか?
レモンマートルのアイスティーは如何でしょうか?
飲んだことが無い人は、この機会に是非試してみては？とても爽やかな香りでリフレッシュできアロマ効果を満喫できます。
レモンマートルという名前からレモンのような味がすると思う人がいるかもしれませんが、レモンのような酸味はなく柑橘系の香りのティーです。
とても飲みやすく、知らないうちにお変わりをしてしまうはずです。

今日、お客様のお店にレモンマートルティーを持って行きました。
非常に寒い日で最高気温はー2℃でした。到着してすぐに、お客様にレモンマートルティーを手渡しました。
彼は箱の1つを手にして、「これは冷えてるね」と言いました。
外気でティーの箱はどれも冷たくなっていたのです。
私は「それはアイスティーの方です」と笑顔で外人ジョークを言いました。
1日に1つの笑いが医者を遠ざけるという英語のことわざがあります。

Have you ever tried Lemon Myrtle Tea? How about Lemon Myrtle Iced tea? If you haven’t it’s about time you did. It has a very refreshing aroma. The name might suggest that it has a lemony taste. Surprisingly it doesn’t have a lemony taste; rather it is very easy to drink. You are often onto your second cup before you know it.

Today I dropped off some tea to one of my customers. Today was a very cold day in Sapporo, with a maximum of about -2 degrees. After I arrived I handed the tea to my customer. He picked up one of the boxes and he said ‘this is cold’. ‘That’s the iced tea’ I replied with a smile on my face. A laugh a day keeps the doctor away.

レモンマートルについて

今回はレモンマートルに関する話をしたいと思います。
レモンマーテルはオーストラリアに自生している植物で、他の国で栽培されてない植物です。
それはオーストラリアの東海岸沿いのブリスベンからケアンズまでの熱多雨林地帯で自生しています。現在では、ブリスベンより南の北ニューサウスウェールズ州の領域でも栽培されます。
レモンマートルはユーカリやティーツリーと同じフトモモ科に属しています。
レモンマートルはオーストラリアの先住民に料理や薬草として使われていたようです。
最初の栽培農園は1991年に始まりました。
レモンマートルの葉は紅茶と料理に広く使用されます。
また、葉から抽出されるエッセンシャルオイルは芳香剤やアロマテラピーや、洗剤やシャンプーなどで広く使用されています。
レモンマートルはオーストラリアの秘宝の1つと言えるでしょう。
秘宝と言えるのは今だけかもしれませんが。

It is time to tell you about lemon myrtle. Lemon Myrtle is a tree which is native to Australia. It grows wild in rainforests on the east coast of Australia from Brisbane to Cairns. It is now farmed in Northern New South Wales located south of Brisbane. Lemon Myrtle belongs to the same family as Eucalyptus and Tea Tree. Lemon Myrtle was apparently used by local aboriginal people in cooking as well as a bush medicine. The first commercial lemon myrtle plantation commenced in 1991. The leaf is used widely as a tea as well as in cooking today. The essential oil is also widely used, in perfumery, aroma therapy, as a detergent, in shampoo etc, etc. Lemon Myrtle is one of Australia’s best kept secrets. Well until now.

奇妙な1日

年明けなのに、仕事は非常に忙しいです。
最もクリスマスから正月にかけても余り休みはありませんでした。
昨日は奇妙な1日でした。
午前中はある相談のためにオーストラリア領事館へ行き、その後保健所を尋ねました。
最後に銀行へ行ってオーストラリアドルの小切手を発行して貰いました。
午後は友人の手伝いで、子供のためのイベント用のトランポリンを札幌ドームで4つ設置する仕事をしました。
18時に帰宅すると、「同じ人から何度も電話があった」と妻が言いました。
何だろうか？と思っていると電話が鳴りました。
それは銀行からでした。私は何か不備があったのか、問題があったのかとドキドキしました。
ところが、電話口から聞こえるのは「181番！181番！。。。」と番号を言い続けているのです。
私が自分の机の上に目をやると、「181番」が有りました。
それは銀行の順番待ちカードでした。
そうです。カウンターで返すのを忘れて持って帰ってしまっていたのです。
その電話の数分後同じ用件で銀行の別の人からも電話がありました。
私は今その銀行で有名人かもしれません。

It is very early in the year but work is very busy. There has been no let up over Christmas and the New Year. Yesterday was a strange type of day. The morning consisted of a visit to the Australian consulate for some advice, a visit to the Department of Health again for some advice on a few matters and a trip to the bank. My afternoon was spent helping a friend set up 4 trampolines for a children’s event at Sapporo Dome. I got home at 18.00 and my wife said the same person had been continually calling you all afternoon. ‘Strange’ I thought. Then the phone rang. It was the bank, very apologetic. Oh, no what have I done. They kept saying ‘Number 181, number 181. I looked on my desk and there was number 181. I had not given back the card which was handed to me to indicate who I was, in other words my customer waiting card. A few minutes after I hang up and someone else in the same department called me about the same matter. Well, at least I am well known in the bank now.

最高のクリスマスと大晦日

妻と僕は今年最高な形でのクリスマスと新年を祝いました。
決して静かなのクリスマスではありませんでした。
それはかなりうるさいものでした。
私たちは余り睡眠をとることができませんでした。
実際は、この6週間の間睡眠不足な状態です。
でも その価値は十分にあるのです。
それは彼女の笑顔を見たり、僕の指をぎゅーっと握ってくれる小さな手に触れたり、彼女の寝顔を見るまで抱っこをするというステキな時を過ごせたからです。
そうです！
今年は家族が増えて3人での初めてのクリスマスと大晦日でした。
最高の一言です。

My wife and I celebrated Christmas and the New Year the best way you can. It was not a quiet Christmas. It was quiet noisy at times. We didn’t get much sleep. Actually, we haven’t had much sleep for the past 6 weeks. It is all worth it though. Why? To see that first smile, to have that little hand hold your finger, to nurse her to sleep. Yes. Our first Christmas and New Year and a family of 3. Just great.
