世界で一番白いビーチ
２月15日、仕事で函館に行きました。
特急列車に乗っていったのですが、列車の旅は景色が楽しめます。
車窓から見える雪に覆われた山や、氷の張った湖、今まで見た中で一番白いビーチ。
残念なことに、白銀のビーチはいつまでも残るわけではありません。
自分がこんなことを言うとは思っていもいませんでしたが、
僕は冬が好きになってきました。
冬はとてもキレイです。特に、暖かい列車の窓から見る冬景色は。
The whitest beaches in the world. I had to go to Hakodate on the 15th of February for business. I travelled by rapid express train, the more scenic way to travel. The train passed through some lovely scenery, including snow capped mountains, partly frozen lakes and the whitest beaches I have ever seen.Unfortunately, these SNOW white beaches don't last forever.
I never thought I would say this, but I am getting to like winter. It is very beautiful, especially from the warmth of a train window.

わずか100日間
日本では、子供が生まれて100日目にお祝いを行います。
僕たちの娘(Lina)は2月17日に100日目を向かえました。
100日のお祝いとして、 多くの人々が子供を神社に連れて行きます。
そして、お坊さんが子供の健康と幸福を願うための儀式を行ってくれます。
僕たちは、20日の日曜日に北海道神宮に行く予定がありましたが、残念ながら吹雪・大雪が予測されているので近いうちに神社へ行くつもりです。
Linaの100日目にこの写真撮りました。 お誕生日おめでとう！！

All of 100 days. In Japan, the 100th day after a child is born is celebrated. Our baby, Lina, turned 100 days old of the 17th of February. Many people take their babies to a Buddhist shrine and the priest performs a ceremony to wish the baby good health and happiness. We were planning to go to Hokkaido shrine on Sunday the 20th but a blizzard is forecast. We will make our visit to the shrine at some other time. This photo was taken on Lina’s 100th day birthday. Happy birthday darling.

盆栽
盆栽の眠りを覚ましてしまいました。
私は３年前から盆栽を育てています。
丈夫で健康な盆栽を育てるためには、—年中室内に置いておくのはよくありません。
長い冬の間、屋外に鉢を置くときは、雪に覆われないように木の陰などに置くか、プラスチックの“盆栽の家”を作ってあげるのがいい方法です。
そうして「盆栽を寝かせる」のがオススメです。
私もこの方法で、去年は全部の盆栽が無事冬を越しました。
でも、その後、４月に私たちは引越しをしたので、今年の冬は、盆栽たちを眠らせるいい場所が見つけられませんでした。
仕方なく、ベランダにそのまま置いています。
でも、数日前「死んじゃったかも？」と心配になり、盆栽の１つを家の中に入れました。
だけど、心配無用。ちっとも死んではいませんでした。
３日もすると、新しい芽が出てきました。
その木は、冬眠中だったのです。
自然の営みに自分がおせっかいなことをしたと、ちょっと悪い気がしています。
今、その盆栽は“起きている”けど、大丈夫なのかな？
I woke my Bonsai up. I have been keeping Mini Bonsai for about 3 years. I order to keep Bonsai strong and healthy they should not be kept inside all year round. You should find a nice spot under a tree protected from alot of snow or make a home for them in a polystyrene box during the long winter months. Yes, "putting them to sleep" is recommended during winter.I did this last year and all the Bonsai survived well. We moved in April last year and due to the lack of space at our new place I was unable to put my Bonsai "to sleep" in the recommended spots this year. They were left on my balcony. I bought one of them inside a few days ago as I was worried it had died. As you can see, it is far from dead. Within 3 days it had new leaves and was growing again. It was just hibernating. I feel a bit guilty for meddling with mother nature. Now that it is awake will it be OK??

守成クラブ
今週初め、私は「エバー オンワード カンパニー」、日本語にすると「守成クラブ」のメンバーになりました。
私が入会した札幌支部には１９１の会社が会員になっています。
２月１５日（木）、最初の会議に参加しました。
会場は札幌ではなく、函館でした。
函館の会議では、レモンマートルを紹介することができました。
そこには、メンバーやゲスト約８０人いましたが、レモンマートルを味わったことがある人はだれもいませんでした。
とても忙しいかったけれど、有意義な日でした。
「守成クラブ」というのは、
小規模企業の経営者が集い、情報交換、商談などをする「トップのための交流会」です。
自社ＰＲ、参加者全員との名刺交換会、商談懇親会などを通して企業トップみずからがビジネスチャンスを広げていけます。
「守成クラブ」は札幌から始まり、現在は全国の主要都市に同様のクラブがあります。
札幌に行こう！札幌での会議は２月２２日に開催されます。
私の名刺が全部なくならないといいんだけど・・・。

The ever onward company Earlier this week I became a member of ‘The ever onward company’ or the ‘shusei club’ as it is called in Japanese. I am a member of the Sapporo branch which has a membership of about 191 companies. I attended my first meeting on Tuesday the 15th of February. It was not the Sapporo meeting rather the meeting in Hakodate.I took the opportunity to introduce Lemon Myrtle at the Hakodate meeting. There were about 80 members and guests and none had ever tasted Lemon Myrtle. A busy but very productive night.
What is the ‘shusei club’? Well, it is a place where owners and managers of small businesses meet and exchange information and discuss business related matters. Time is provided for participants to do some PR work, exchange business cards with all members and guests, and provides the setting for participants to widen their business opportunities. There are over 190 companies that belong to the Sapporo branch and there are similar clubs in most major cities in Japan. The Sapporo meeting is on the 22nd of February. I hope I don’t run out of business cards.

今までで一番忙しい一日(パート2）
その会合（2月6日）は、ポートランド（アメリカ）の市長と派遣団、HIBAのメンバーが集まりました。
ポートランド市は札幌市と姉妹都市でポートランド市長と一行は、3日間札幌に滞在します。
HIBAはNPO団体で、北海道のインターナショナル ビジネスの発展と友好をサポートし、インターナショナル ビジネスコミュニティーに情報ネットワークとして働いています。

僕はHIBAのメンバーでまた役員でもあります。
会合のことに戻ります。
ポートランドから派遣団からは約30人、HIBAからは10人ほどが出席していました。
また、札幌市長と市役所の関係者も来ていました。
僕は札幌市長と話すチャンスはなかったけど（きっと次回は!?）ポートランド市長とは少し話しました。
お酒を飲みながらの談笑はとてもリラックスしたものでした。
この週末はとてもよい形で終わりました。終わりじゃなくて一週間の始まりかな?
Today was one of the most busiest days of the year for me so far. (Part 2) On the evening of February the 6th I attended a meeting which was an informal get together for the Mayoral delegtion from Portland City Council and HIBA. Portland is the sister city of Sapporo and the Mayor and his delegtion are in Sapporo for 3 days. HIBA stands for Hokkaido International Business Association. HIBA is a non-profit organization which seeks to support and promote international business and friendship in Hokkaido while serving as an information network for the international business community. Back to the meeting. There were about 30 members from the delegation from Portland and about 10 from HIBA. We also had a visit from the mayor of Sapporo and some of his council. I didn't get to speak to the Mayor of sapporo (may be next time??) but had a few words with the mayor of Portland. A very relaxed atmosphere allowing for some talk over a few drinks. A good way to end the week. Or was it to start the week??

今までで一番忙しい一日(パート1）
今日は、僕にとって今までで一番忙しい一日でした。
午前中はレモンマートルの試飲会の準備をし、雪道を1時間半かけて、試飲会の会場の小樽まで行き、12時40分からは、2時間半でレモンマートルティーを紹介しました。
会場で僕は話した人は皆さん、レモンマートルティーの味は勿論、聞いたことも無く、オーストラリアからの「新しい味」に驚いていました。札幌に戻ってきてからは、夕方、ちょっとした会合に出席しました。
英語のことわざなんですが、直訳すると“悪い人は休みが無い”。やっぱり、僕は悪い男に違いない。
Today was one of the most busiest days of the year for me so far. (Part 1) I spent the morning preparing for a tea tasting event. I then spend 1 and a half hours driving on a road covered with snow in order to get to the location. I arrived in Otaru at about 12.40 and spent the next 2 and a half hours providing people with samples of lemon myrtle tea. None of the people that I spoke to had ever heard of Lemon myrtle tea let alone taste it. All were pleaseantly surprised with the "New taste" from Australia. After returning to Sapporo I attended an informal meeting.No rest for the wicked. I must be a bad, bad man.

札幌雪祭り
第56回目の札幌雪祭りは2月7日から13日まで開催されています。
3つの会場があります。
大通公園は主な会場であり、海外からのチームや日本自衛隊や一般市民それぞれが氷雪像を作っています。
真駒内は、日本自衛隊の基地として通常利用されていますが、 残念ながら、今年は最後のイベントになってしまいます。
大通公園と真駒内が雪像メインなのに対し、3つ目のススキノ会場は氷像がメインとなっています。
1週間でおよそ12万人の観光客が予想されています。
特に2月9日が旧正月の中国では休みに入るため中国からの観光客が期待されています。
雪像が溶けないように、この1週間だけは気温が寒いままであるように祈ります。

Sapporo snow festival The 56th Sapporo snow festival is being held from the 7th to the 13th of February. There are 3 venues. Odori Park is the major venue and is where international teams, the Japanese self defense forces and citizens from all parts of Japan are involved in the construction of ice and snow statues. The other major site, at Makomanai, doubles as one of the bases of the Japan Self Defense force. Unfortunately, this year is the last year the event will be held there. The final venue includes the streets of Susukino. The sculptures in Odori Park and Makomanai are made from both ice and snow where the sculptures in Susukino are made from only ice.Some 120,000 visitors are expected to visit Sapporo over the week of the event. It coincides with the Chinese new year and a rush of visitors are expected from around the 9th of February. This is one time of the year where you hope the temperature remains cold so the statues don’t melt.

レモンマートルの人
２月５日日曜日、ホロトロピック・ワールド（意識の成長と進化）というとても興味深いセミナーに参加しました。
ホロトロピックはギリシャ語で、「全体性に向う」という意味です。
セミナーは午後６時２０分から始まり、９時に終了するまでの２時間半、３人の講師からの話がありました。
最初は、西谷さんから札幌のホロトロピックセンターの組織と医療についてのお話でした。
自然のものを使うことが病気を遠ざけ、抵抗力をつける方法だ、ということが、一つの焦点でした。
２番目の講師は、天外さんで、出生についてのお話でした。
特に、自然分娩の長所、妊娠中と出産後の母子の関係、母子分離（胎児が産まれる瞬間）、出産と世界の平和との関係についての話。
最後の講師は、アシリ・レラさんというアイヌの人で、「くまの親子」の話をしてくれました。
アイヌの人と自然との関係や彼らが食べ物に対して感謝していたことのお話でした。
約300人がそのセミナーに参加していましたが、隣の席の人から挨拶されました。
「あら、あたなはレモンマートルの人ね。去年の４月にお会いしたわ」と。
札幌には200万人もの人がいるのに、信じられない！
On Saturday the 5th of February I attended a very interesting seminar called 'Hotoropikku World, Growth and Development of Consciousness'.
Hotoropikku comes from the Greek language and means 'facing integrity'.
The seminar started at 18:20 and finished at 21:00 and during the 2 and a half hours we heard from 3 speakers.
Dr. Nishitani spoke about the construction of the Sapporo Horotoropikku Centre as well as Horotoropikku medicine. The use of nature and naural products as a way of avoiding and fighting disease was one of the points he focused on.
The second speaker was Mr. Tenge and he spoke about birth. In particular the benefits of natural birth, the connection between mother and baby during pregnancy and after birth, the problems associated with seperation of mother and baby after birth and the link between child birth and world peace.
The final speaker was Asir Rera, an Ainu, and she told a story about the 'Mother and Child Bear'. A story about the the relationship Ainu people have with the living environment and the respect they have for the food they eat.About 300 people attended the seminar and the person who sat next to me greeted me with 'Ah, your the Lemon Myrtle Man'! I met this lady last April.
You wouldn't believe there are about 2 million people in Sapporo.

世の中って狭い！
1月28日金曜日、午後4時頃のことです。
円山駅へ行くために大通駅の地下鉄を行っていると、 突然、40才代の男性に声を掛けられました。
“クレイグさんじゃないですか？”
僕は、会ったことがある人の顔はたいてい覚えているのですが、この男性とは一度もお会いしたことはないと思いました。
彼は、“あなたのホームページであなたの顔を見ました”と言うのです。
だけど、どうして僕のホームページアドレスを知っているのか不思議です。
彼の話を聞いて、全ての謎がはっきりしました。
僕のビジネスパートナーが僕のホームページのアドレスを彼に教えたことがあったそうです。
世界は本当に狭い。
インターネットによって、世界はさらに小さくなっています。
無人さん、声を掛けてくださって本当にありがとうございます。
It was Friday the 28th of January at about 16:00. I was at Odori station ready to board the subway for Maruyama. Suddenly a man in his 40’s said "Your Craig aren't you?" I am usually very good with faces, but I had never met this man. "I saw your face on your website" he said. Even more intriguing, how did he know my homepage address. Then he introduced himself and all the pieces fell into place. My business partner had given this man the homepage address. The world really is a small place. The internet makes it even smaller. Thank you for stopping me and saying hello Mr. Mujin.

雪の中に車を隠そうゲーム
雪の中に車を隠そうゲームってご存知でしょうか？
日曜日（1月23日）の朝9時ごろ起きました。
車から物を取りに駐車場に行きました。
いつも車をとめている所に行きましたが、その日はサイドミッラーしか見えなかったのです。
何???
僕の車は50cmの雪にすっぽりと隠れていました。
たった12時間でこんな事になっちゃったようです。
自分の車を取り出すために1時間もかかりました。
その後、同じアパートの住人の車を取り出すのを手伝いました。
雪かきで疲れた僕はご苦労様ビールを頂きました。
年に雪が降るのが、たったの5ヶ月で僕は本当に嬉しいですよ。
Do you know ‘Hide the car in the snow game’?
I woke on Sunday morning (23rd of January) at about 9.00 a.m. I had to go and get something from the car. I got to where the car was supposed to be and found only 2 side mirrors??? My car was covered in about 50cms of snow. This snow fell in a period of about 12 hours. It took about 1 hour to retrieve my car. Then I helped my neighbor retrieve his car. For my trouble I got a pleasant surprise, a thank you beer. It didn't last very long. I am happy that it snows for only 5 months of the year.
