ザ・ハミルトンにてハッピーアワー
ザ・ハミルトン札幌内ハッピーアワーという イベントが既にスタート。
昨夜の7月29日は一回目。
（ハッピーアワーというのはオーストアラリアにある制度で、お 客様にお得なサービスを与える1時間半です。通常、バーで ビールが半額になります。）
これをきっかけに、滞在する方にお礼を申し上げ、レモンマートルティーとレモンマート ル入りのケーキの試食を提供するイベントです。
9月23日までの毎週金曜日と土曜日の17:00〜 18:30まで行われます。
昨夜、好評のレモンマートル入りのパウンドケーキとアイスティがありました。

Happy Hour at the Hamilton
Happy hour at the Hamilton has started. Last night, Friday the 29th of July, was the kick off. This is an opportunity to say thank you to our guests as well as provide our guests with a sample of cake made from Lemon Myrtle as well as a nice cup of Lemon Myrtle tea. It will be running from 17:00 to 18:30 every Friday and Saturday night until the 23rd of September. Last night we had Lemon Myrtle Pound Cakes and iced tea.This is where it's at.

おめでとう!! 自然遺産
日本３ヶ所目の世界自然遺産が決まりました。
７月１４日、北海道の北東の端、知床は自然遺産として登録されました。
ヒグマ、大鷲、魚、鹿、いるか、鯨などの様々なすばらしい野生動物・生き物が生息しています。
火山、天然温泉、真冬には、海岸で戦っている流氷もあります。
疑問は１つだけです。知床への観光ブームに関わる問題です。
Congratulations!! It's all natural.
Japan has it's 3rd natural world heritage site. The north eastern tip of Hokkaido, known as Shiretoko, was registered as world heritage on Thursday the 14th of July.It has exquisite wildlife including Bears, Eagles, Dear, fish, doplhins and whales. Active volcanoes with hot springs and ice drift that meets the coast in winter time. The question is how will Japan control tourism in the area. I want to see the area myself.

目的があるからこそ、命です。
旭山動物園へ行ったことはありません。
しかし、先週、話題になっている旭山動物園の園長（小菅正夫さん）の講演会が札幌で開かれ、それに参加することが出来ました。
小菅さんの少年時代、動物や命について、90分ぐらい話してくれました。
駄洒落（だじゃれ）入りのスピーチで参加者全員、笑顔で聞きました。
スピーチのキーワードは、
動物と人間、食べ物（餌）と命、目的と満足。
旭山動物園内では「行動展示」というディスプレーが作られています。
基本的に、動物は餌を探さなけれなりません。この行動は、動物に目的を与え、満足感が得られます。
自然な環境にいる動物を観ることに近い状態だと思います。
動物は嬉しい、動物園へ行っているお客様も嬉しい、動物園のスタッフも嬉しい。誰も負けないじゃないですか。

With purpose comes life.
I have never been to Asahiyama Zoo but last week I attended a lecture in Sapporo given by Masao Kosuke, the director of the famous Zoo. Masao talked for about 90 minutes, speaking about his childhood, animals, purpose and life. There were many gags to keep us laughing.The key words included the following:-
Animals and humans. Food and life. Purpose and satisfaction.Asahiyama Zoo has made displays called 'Behavioral displays'. Basically, the animals have to search for their food, they are given purpose and with purpose comes satisfaction.
This is close to watching the animals in the wild. The animals are satisfied, humans are, the zoo is also very happy. A win win situation.

髪の毛が薄くなってきた理由が分かった!
“ちょっとハゲてきてるよね？”と言われたことがよくあります。どういう意味だろう?
日本に来てから髪の毛の量が薄くなってきたことは事実です。
原因があります。
それは、低い天井の建物（アパート、家など等）や天井が低い車が多いから。
低い天井に頭をよくぶつけてしまいます。
しょっちゅう頭をぶつけているので、髪の毛が薄くなってきました。
それは僕の言い訳かな。。。
I know why I loosing my hair.
Some people might go as far and say that I am going bald. What does that mean? My loss of hair has increased since I have ben in Japan. I know why. Many old buildings have low rooves, the cars also have low rooves. As such I often hit my head. This continual hitting of my head has lead to the gradual decline in hair on my head. Well, this is my excuse anyway.

郷に入れば
日本に来てから、いろいろと奇妙なことを体験しました。
5月26日にも、ある奇妙な体験をしました。
その日は東急百貨店でのイベントの初日でした。
僕は、クルッティの活動・ブースを宣伝するために、ラジオ・ノスタルジアの生中継に出演しました。
その時のアナウンサーは日本人ではありませんでした。
でも、彼女は僕みたいに日本語を話せたんです。
ラジオを聞いていた人はどう思っただろう?
僕の気に入っていることわざは“郷に入れば郷に従え”ですが、その日は、まさに、そういう日でした。

I have had some strange experiences while I have been here in Japan.
One was the 26th of May. It was the first day of an event I was attending at Tokyu Department store. I was invited to appear on Radio Nostalgia to promote my activities. The announcer was not Japanese. However, she spoke Japanese as did I. I wonder what the listeners thought.Well, one of my favorite sayings, 'When in Rome, do as the Romans" was used on this day.

7月18日は祝日ですが、僕達は仕事をする予定です。
エコ＆ナチュラル フェスタというイベントに出展します。

「鯨」にまつわること
ある日、買い物をしていると、鯨の肉が売っていました。
100グラムで約8000円（＄100AUD）でした。
僕はちょっと興味が湧いてきました。
まず、誰が鯨の肉を食べるのか？
「年配の人は食べますよ」と店員は言ってました。
日本では古くは縄文時代から、捕鯨と鯨の肉を食べる文化がありましたし、
また、終戦直後の食料事情がよくなかった時代は、
鯨の肉は蛋白源としてよく食べられていたそうです。
次におもしろいと思ったことは、鯨という漢字です。
「魚」と「京」が合わさって出来た漢字で、
「京」は数字の兆の一万倍というとても大きな数です。
だから、鯨という漢字そのものが、一番大きな魚という意味を表しています。
また、「京」の文字は、東京や京都（平安時代の都）の街の名前にも使われていて、
「みやこ」を意味しています。
面白いこと、興味深いことは、どこにでもあります。
人生は勉強だと思いませんか。
Whales and other big things.
I was doing some shopping the other day and stumbled across some whale meat. 100g for about 8,000 yen. ($100AUD). I was interested in a few things. First, who eats whale meat? 'Old people do' said the shop keeper. In Japan, there is a culture of whale fishing and eating whale meats from ancient times (the jomon period). And, after world war 2 , in bad nutrition days, whale meat was a source of protein. So, people often ate whale meats in those days , I heard.Secondly,
the Chinese characters for whale are very interesting. A combination of fish and kei, which is the number 10 quadrillion. So the characters for whale meaning the fish of the biggest proportions. The same characters are also used in the place names of Tokyo (The capital in the east), and Kyoto (the capital during the edo heian). You can find interesting things where ever you go. Life if a learning experience isn't it.

初めての父の日
先週の日曜日、父親として、初めて父の日を経験しました。
午後は仕事に行かなければなりませんでしたが、家を出る前娘からプレゼントをもらいました。
7ヶ月の娘はお父さんに何をプレゼントするのでしょうか?
大勢の子供たちと同じようにネクタイですよね。
ママとの協力で縞柄のピンクのネクタイと黄色のネクタイ（黄色のネクタイは初めて）を選んでくれました。
包みを開けるとすぐに、小さい指で里奈（娘）はパパの新しいネクタイで遊び始めました。
里奈は'よく似合うよパパ’と言おうとしたのでしょう。
プリンセスありがとう。
素晴らしい父の日もありがとうね。
My first fathers day
Last Sunday I celebrated my first fathers day. I had to worked in the afternoon but did get a present from my daughter before I left home. What does a 7 month old give her father. Like most children a neck tie of course. With mums help she picked out a pink striped ties as well as my first yellow tie. Not longer after unwrapping the ties, Lina (My daughter) had her little hands all over my new ties. I think she was trying to say 'They suits you dad'. Thanks 'Princess'. A great fathers day.
